Contemplative Prayer for Latter-Day Saints

About this class

Contemplative prayer is the deepest and richest form of prayer.  It is a special kind of prayer designed to open one’s awareness to pure, spiritual perception.  In this state one is able to develop the consciousness of Christ and receive the sanctifying influence of God’s presence and grace.  It is in this presence and grace that one can experience spiritual rebirth and fulfill the highest purpose of this life.

In this class you will learn an ancient method of Self Inquiry, which was designed to help one glimpse and experience the divine nature of one’s own soul.  This will be followed by a study of the principles of contemplative prayer as revealed in the scriptures and instruction in methods of contemplative prayer, which will empower you to fulfill the command of Jesus to “watch and pray”.  This “watching and praying” will “still your mind” and “purify your heart” as it leads you into the presence of God.
